National Board Recognizes Eureka High Teacher 

ST. LOUIS,  NOV. 25, 2003 -The National Board for Professional Teaching
Standards (NBPTS) has recognized Kim Lackey, foreign language teacher at
Eureka High School in the Rockwood School District, as a National Board
Certified Teacher for her successful completion of a demanding two-year
evaluation and assessment procedure. 

"NBCT teachers must meet high and rigorous standards," says Sue
McAdamis, coordinator of staff development for Rockwood. "Board
certified teachers are exemplars in their field."

Teachers who wish to achieve National Board Certification must begin
applying for the honor nearly two years before the selection process
takes place. Candidates are required to submit two videotapes that
display their teaching ability in a classroom setting and in a small
group, student work samples, a professional portfolio and documentation
of their accomplishments both inside and outside the school community.
The application process also includes written assessment tests.

"The incredible amount of work and effort Kim put in to achieving this
recognition is a direct reflection of the outstanding work she does in
the classroom with our students," said Kevin Keltner, principal at
Eureka High School.

NBPTS is an independent organization that seeks to determine the
quality of teachers nationwide and to recognize teachers who are
outstanding in their field.
