WHAT'S HAPPENIN' in U.City

Loop News: Jimmy Johns (Gourmet Sandwich shop), 6681 Delmar, will be
opening in late November. The new Pan Asian Restaurant on Eastgate is
planning to open in December.  Pin-Up Bowl, an 8-lane bowling alley and
martini/food bar, plans to open early in December; the 2nd bldg on the north
side of Delmar, east of Skinker.  Holiday special events:  a fashion show in
the Duck Room (Blueberry Hill) 3 to 5pm on Dec. 6;  photos with Santa at the
Tivoli 12 to 2pm on Dec. 6th;  + sales specials in many Loop shops all day.
68 Loop businesses are now listed with the St.Louis Convention & Visitors
Commission.   New signs are to be installed in the Loop to warn against
panhandling, bikes & skateboards on sidewalks, trash, etc.  The Art of
Giving; 39th Annual Holiday Exhibition will be at the Craft Alliance Gallery
through Dec. 24th.  The new retail bldg (replacing Smith Hardware) is almost
complete; we're still not sure what retail shops will be there.

The U.City Education Foundation will conduct a fundraiser at Plowsharing
Crafts, 6271 Delmar, on Dec. 4th, from 6 to 9pm.  A percentage of all sales
during that period will go to UCEF.  Call 863-5490 for info.

The U.City Children's Center is having a wine-tasting fundraiser on Dec.4th;
call 726-0148 for information.

The 82nd Street Bridge now has an asphalt overlay, and the Kingsland Bridge
is now open for traffic.

Looks like the former Mohme Station at Old Bonhomme & Delmar will become a
garden shop/nursery.

The Jacobs Facilities Inc. team has been selected to design our new
multi-purpose community recreation center in Heman Park.   They anticipate
design completion by mid-March 2004.

Wash. U. News:  The Whitaker Biomedical Engineering bldg is now complete.
The Olin Library renovations will be finished in the spring.  Work on the
Sam Fox Arts Center will begin in the spring.

Brighter means safer.  With nightfall coming early, it is important for all
streetlights to work properly.  If there is a streetlight outage in your
area, call AmerenUE (342-1000) with pole number & location (or call City
Hall).

The City Council approved a final subdivision plat for "Villas At Nob Hill",
at 1100 Eighty First Street, which includes nine buildable lots plus common
ground.

The Council also approved Phase 2 of the Claymont Place Condominium project
at 520 North & South Rd, creating 22 condo units in the new building being
completed south of Delmar (east side).

The initial expansion of the Heman Park fitness center is expected to be
complete by early December.

During November and December, the City will NOT require a sticker to pick up
your bags of leaves.

The official opening of the St. Louis Christian Chinese Community Service
Center, 8225 Olive, took place in October. Their objective is to provide
healthcare and counseling to Chinese with limited English ability.
