Extending Valentines Day Valentines Day, Feb. 14, every year, sweethearts send cards, eat dinner out and remind each other how much they are in love. What happens on Feb. 15th? Is it back to the daily grind of work,harsh words, shopping, meal preparation, shuttling the kids back and forth to lessons, only to fall into bed exhausted from the day's activities? It is not surprising that we have angry drivers,unhappy children, frustration instead of joy. Remember when you were free, of responsibility, bills, school? How did you feel each day? You were probably a loving little kid! Kisses and hugs freely given, even after fighting with your friends or siblings. One day a year to be reminded to love one another is not enough! Showing love to the unlovable, intolerant, rejected, is the way of Christian life. What must happen to love another unconditionally? . Only Christ, with His substitutionary death on the cross can offer the total forgiveness and freedom that one can have to love God, and to love another. He loves us unconditionally. When we experience that kind of love, to our heavenly Father, we then are able to express unconditional love to those around us. When the verticle is wrong, the horizontal is also wrong. Fix, the verticle relationship with God and the horizontal relationship with mankind, family, yes, even your mother-in- law will improve. The Taiwanese Presbyterian Church believes in unconditional forgiveness and love of Jesus Christ. No other religion offers total forgiveness of sins, past present and future. When loving others is difficult the Holy Spirit of God gives the ability to love that person unconditionally. Valentines Day may just be a date on the calendar, but for Christians, it is an everyday event. We love, because He first loved us.
