WHAT'S HAPPENIN'  in U.City

Loop News:   Fitz's has changed hands again, but will retain the bottling
line and the restaurant, under Clayton Capital Partners, Inc.  Loop in
Motion plans for Oct. 3-4, including a parade, are in progress.   A new
woman's clothing store ("Tantrum") is opening in the Tivoli building.  Big
Shark is expanding into the new area across from the Pageant; one shop in
athletic clothing and the other a new bike shop.  A new coffee shop will be
opening in Wash. U.'s new building at Skinker and the Parkway.  Wholistic
Harvest opened on Kingsland, between Cicero's and U.City Grill; offering
unique tea elixirs and organic juices.  On August 16th, Blueberry Hill will
commemorate the 26th anniversary of Elvis' death by presenting "From Tupelo
to Graceland"; call 727-0880 for details.

The dangerous intersection of Trinity and Delmar is being studied under an
approved state grant, and the County promises to give the results of this
study a high priority.  Estimated completion of study = mid-August.

The entrance/exit to and from the shopping plaza at Big Bend and the Parkway
is being studied by the County, hopefully to provide safer access to and
from Big Bend, from Pershing.

Vehicles that are trying to use narrow residential streets to bypass the
Parkway closure are being ticketed for speeding and violating one-way
barricades.  Unfortunately, many are U.City residents.  Strict enforcement
zones are on Pershing (7000 to 7200), Waterman (7200), and Forsyth
(7200-7300); with double fines.

UCRS (U.City Residential Service) is scheduling their annual U.City House
Tour for Sept. 14th, and will include outstanding local gardens.  Check
their website, www.ucityresidential.org for updates.

Don't forget the free musicals on Mondays and Tuesdays:  the Starlight
Summer Concert series runs from July 7th to Aug. 25th;  7:30pm in Heman
Park.   The U.City Summer Band concerts run from July 1st to Aug. 5th; 7pm
at Market in the Loop Plaza.   Bring your own mosquito spray.

The Walton Ave. bridge (on 82nd Blvd) opened in June.  However, the River
DesPeres bridge on 82nd Blvd (just north of Olive) will be shut down for
reconstruction, so detours will be necessary for many.

The new U.City Informational Sign at Olive and Pennsylvania is now lit up.
Watch for its message.

The Fall 2003 issue of CityScape will be published around August 22nd.

In answer to complaints from Ames Place residents regarding problems with
Wash. U. students, the University is extending its Neighborhood Security
Patrol hours until 4am on three nights/week.  Also, they are converting
occupancy of one property to graduate students starting Fall 2004, and have
increased its financial commitment to the U.City Police Dept.

The City Council is currently debating the merits of allowing St.Louis
County Health Dept. to spray for mosquitoes, particularly in light of the
current publicity about West Nile Virus.  Decision may come soon.

The State has passed legislation that would let us vote on raising our
special tax for Sewer Lateral Repair work from $28/year to $50/year.  We
have found that more homes need this work than we can accommodate.

The Forest Park Parkway will be closed EAST of Skinker early in July (MetroLink construction).
