About the Author

    My name is David Willard. I am 20 years old and am a sophomore
at Princeton University. When not studying at Princeton, I live with my
family in University City, where I have grown up my whole life. 

     For the past six years I have studied Mandarin Chinese, including
four years at St. Louis University High School and two years at Princeton.
I spent two months at a summer study-abroad program "Princeton in Beijing" 
taking courses in Chinese at Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China in 2002.   

    In this SCANews PIB column I hope to share with you my experiences in China -
in particular, my impressions of China's unique, rich culture and the
challenge of learning Chinese at a university.
