MSD Receives National Finance Accounting Honors From Government Association By Scanews staff ST. LOUIS, MO * The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District has been recognized for excellence in financial accounting and full disclosure. For the 15th consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded MSD with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. It was awarded to the MSD Finance Department. MSD Acting Executive Director Charles Etwert said, "This award is significant because it reflects the commitment we have to the highest principles and practices of financial accounting in our diligent stewardship of fiscal policies. It also reflects that we value public trust and how hard we work to maintain it." The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. GFOA spokesman Stephen Gauthier said MSD was honored for its "high standards in demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story." It is the second major national recognition of 2003 for the MSD Finance Department. In March, MSD was recognized for its budgeting practices by the GFOA.
