Lt. Gov. Maxwell Receives "Leadership of the Year Award" from Alzheimer's
Association 

JEFFERSON CITY  - Lt. Gov. Joe Maxwell was presented March 11, 2003 with the
"Leadership of the Year Award" by the Missouri Coalition of Alzheimer's
Association Chapters. The annual award is traditionally given to a
legislator in honor of their strong commitment and leadership toward the
Alzheimer's Association.

Lt. Gov. Maxwell received the award in front of an audience of Alzheimer's
Advocates as part of the "Faces of Alzheimer's Ceremony" for Memory Day
2003. Memory Day 2003 is an annual event where Alzheimer's Advocates meet
with legislative leaders to urge support for key issues of the group.
Carroll Rodriguez, public policy director for the Missouri Coalition of
Alzheimer's Association Chapters, presented Maxwell with the award.

"When asked why he is willing to tackle such tough issues, I have often
heard Joe Maxwell say, because 'it's the right thing to do,'" Rodriguez
said. "Today, the right thing for Alzheimer's Advocates is to honor Joe
Maxwell with our Leadership of the Year Award."

Maxwell, who works closely with the Alzheimer's Association as Elderly
Advocate for the State of Missouri, said he is honored to be a part of
promoting their cause.

"As Elderly Advocate, I am devoted to protecting the rights of our most
vulnerable citizens," Maxwell said. "I thank the Association for this award,
and I thank the Advocates for the work they do in educating our legislators
on the vital issues to those living with Alzheimer's in Missouri."
