Asian Farmers' Market donates $300 to Olive Business Association

Mr. George Tsai, President of the Asian Farmers' Market at Olive street, donated $300 to Olive Business Association on October 14, 2003 at OBA monthly meeting.  The $300 is from the rental booths fee at the Asian Farmers' Market Community Fun Fair on September 20 this year.  This is the second time Asian Farmers' Market donated money to support OBA.  Last year, Asian Farmers' Market donated a "Make A Different Day" check to OBA to support and help OBA's development.   Members were very pleased to hear of these generous contributions.

The first major project of the Olive Business Association is underway at last.  The Zane Williams Company was chosen to produce the banners advertising The Olive Link, and its logo.  Since the University City lion is a part of the logo, the City will share the cost of production.  Banners will be printed and all the hardware will be assembled for installation by the end of this year.
 
Dr. Tullia B. Hamilton, Impact Director, Daughters of Charity Foundation, spoke to members.  The Foundation is making its three-year evaluation of the progress and effect of the Healthy Communities projects it helped to create and fund.  The OBA was started and has been moved along for the past three years by U. City East.  Shari LeKane-Yentumi has been the executive director of U. City East, reporting to the Daughters of Charity Foundation.  Members of the OBA told Dr. Hamilton of their thanks and appreciation of the Foundation for everything it has done to help make OBA activities become established.
 
Shari LeKane-Yentumi reported that the final count of confirmed businesses along Olive Street Road in U. City is 203.  The count has been done in the process of producing the computer base for the upcoming Business Directory.
 
New OBA Directors were introduced.  They are Dr. Ching-Ling Tai, Asian Farmers' Market, and May Wu, St. Louis Chinese American Newspaper.
 
Larry Lieberman, U. City City Councilman, made the City Council report.  He said the Delmar Loop Laundromat will be moving to 6640 Vernon Avenue, near Kingsland.  The former movie theater, later a church, on Olive near North & South, will soon become a restaurant and banquet center.  The 82nd Street bridge will not be completed until late in 2004.  The U. City swimming pool and recreation center expansion projects are underway, as scheduled.
 
Thomas Moton, Assistant City Manager, displayed the new placards announcing "Firearms Not Permitted" which are available for display in all establishments requesting them.
  
The next meeting of the OBA will be November 12, a Wednesday.  The meeting date has been changed to allow for the Veterans' Day holiday on Tuesday.  Please come to the meeting to represent your business as the OBA moves quickly along.
