Suyun Qu from Florissant receives three UMSL scholarships

Suyun Qu, of Florrisant, Mo., receives the Julie and Robin Kerry Memorial Scholarship from Robert Bliss, dean of the Pierre Laclede Honors College at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The scholarship is given in honor of Julie and Robin Kerry, honors college students who died in 1994 at the Chain of Rocks Bridge over the Mississippi River. Qu also was awarded the Bob and Paulette Bliss Study Abroad Scholarship, for honors college students planning to study abroad, and the International Studies Scholarship, for students who rank in the top 5 percent of their high school class and score above 28 on the ACT or 1170 on the SAT.

Suyun Qu is entering her second year as an International Business student at UMSL. Born in Shanghai, China, and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Qu was an exchange student at Hazelwood Central High School in Florissant, Mo., during the 2001-02 school year.

After graduating, she decided to study international business. She considered university programs throughout the United States. 

"I came to UMSL after making a last-minute decision, but the more I'm here, the more I like it," Qu said.

This school year, she's heading to Austria on an exchange program to study at the University of Krems. She plans to pursue a master's degree in business administration after earning her bachelor's degree.

"International business is very broad, but it teaches you so much," Qu said.

The International Business Program recently was ranked 18th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in the magazine's 2004 ranking of undergraduate international business programs.
