The St. Louis International Folkfest took place Oct. 16 and 17, 1999 at Queeny Park.  This year theme is "the tree of life", an international symbol for the way creatures can live in harmony.  Like our national slogan, E pluribus nunm, it symbolizes "From many, one". At Folkfest, call cultures join together to show how they are both different and alike.
Folkfest '99 is an indoor multi-ethnic celebration featuring traditional dance and music, ethnic food, cultural and educational exhibits, folk art demonstrations, and an international bazaar.   Presented by the International Institute and 70 ethnic & international organizations, the festival stimulates awareness and understanding of the cultural richness of our metropolitan community.
