The big "Experience the Olive Link" Expo in Heman Park on May 31 was the exciting talk of the evening at the
Olive Business Association meeting on May 11. "Snip and Dip," the pool opening dedication to be held together with the Link Expo will highlight the opening of the rebuilt swimming pool to University City residents and merchants. Events will begin at noon and end at 5:00 P.M. that day.
The meeting began with a big Thank You to Larry Lieberman, retired City Council member from Ward 1 in U. City. Dan Savory, co-chairman of the OBA, presented him with a gift and a Certificate of Appreciation for all the help he has given to the group since its beginning.
Cheryl Thompson, manager of the recreation center in Heman Park, announced the annual Concerts in the Park series which will begin in July. She is seeking co-sponcors for posters, handouts, flyers, and all the advertising to be distributed for the concerts. The music productions are always heavily attended.
Dan Savory said that elections for new OBA officers will be held on June 8 during the regular meeting. Be sure to come.
The police department's bicycle patrol in the Delmar Loop area has been very successful. The police plan to expand the patrol to other areas.
The 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Royal Banks will be held the week of June 12. Gail Dickson, manager of the Olive Street Road headquarters of Royal Banks, asked everyone to watch for the dates of the big barbecue and other festivities in the bank's parking lot.
Eric Huang, Chinese Chamber of Commerce, asked about the posibility of trash disposal containers along the sidewalks on Olive. Several merchants had suggestions for involving area residents in a clean-ip operation, among other ideas. This will be a topic for much discussion in the coming year. There are various ways to deal with litter in the area.
The OBA hopes that banners will be hung along Olive by the time of the big Olive Link Expo and pool dedication on May 31.Come to Heman Park then for booths, bands and swimming. Meet your friends there for fun, music and food.
