St. Louis Chinese American Men and Women Fight for our Country

Since the "Operation Iraqi Freedom" started, hundreds of thousands of our
military men and women have been deployed to Iraq to fight for freedom and justice. To join the "On the Homefront" action, St. Louis Chinese American News (Scanews) and the St. Louis Chinese American community support our troops, their families, and our country.
There are many Chinese American military personnel serving in the Iraqi
battlefield and in this country. Scanews interviewed 4 of them who are all from St. Louis. Henry Han-Li Liang, Marine Lieutenant, is currently in central Iraq. Let us pray for Henry and his battalion and all the soldiers who fight for our country.
Marine: Henry Han-Li Liang
Henry Han-Li Liang graduated from Parkway West High School in 1991 and
finished his Bachelor's degree at Washington University in 1995. Henry joined he Navy and finished Navy Officer Training as Battalion Commander (Leader of the Battalion) in July 1997. He went to Medical School at the University of Health Sciences from 1997 to 2001 and got his Medical Board Certification. He spent 2 year at Des Peres Hospital for this internship.
Henry is currently a Navy Lieutenant with 1st Battalion, 7th Marines Regiment as one of the two Field Surgeons working on field medicine and dealing with chemical attacks. He reported to duty on July 2002 at Twenty-nine Palms, California, and deployed on January 31, 2003 to Kuwait. According to the CNN news, his battalion is headed to Central Iraq with the Supply Line.
Navy: Jason Chen
Jason Chen was a John Burroughs High School student and graduated from the
Navy Academy in 2002. He is currently at Oxford University for his Master's degree in Russian Politics. He is an outstanding student at the Navy Academy and was honored as "Son of St. Louis".
Air Force: Gloria Lin
Gloria Lin is a fifth year student at Washington University studying pre-med and majoring in Chinese. She graduated from Carmel High School (Carmel, IN) in 1998. She received an Air Force ROTC scholarship to study Chinese and joined AFROTC as a freshman in college. She is an active member of the Arnold Air Society, an honorary service organization associated with AFROTC. When she graduates in May 2003, she will commission as a Lieutenant and begin a career as a health care administrator for the US Air Force.
Gloria has started writing a series of articles about the Air Force ROTC program known as
"ABC in AFROTC". They re published in Scanews and its website at

Gloria Lin's father John Lin is a retired Air Force officer. John Lin
served at Scott Air Force Base during the first Gulf War in 1991.
Army: Tom Cai
Tom Cai graduated from Parkway West High School last year. Currently he is a freshman at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Along with his
excellent high school academy performance, Tom has learned Chinese Kung Fu from his father Dr. Yinsha Cai, a professor at Washington University. According to Tom's mother who visited Tom in the beginning of the semester, Tom was very happy of his choice to join the Army. She also said that West Point takes very good care of Tom. After 4 years, Tom will be a talented Chinese American Army officer able to serve and protect his country.
